Embrace the Vintage Vibe

The Appeal of Roughout Leather Boots

When it comes to cowboy boots, there's a certain magic in the details that set them apart. One of the most exciting trends making waves in the boot industry today is the resurgence of roughout leather—a material that pays homage to the most vintage and iconic cowboy boots of the past while offering something uniquely fresh and rugged for modern-day wearers.

Roughout leather stands out with its distinct texture, achieved by reversing the full-grain leather so that the rougher, unrefined side is on the exterior. This design choice is more than just an aesthetic one; it creates boots that are not only visually striking but also built for durability. Unlike smooth leather, roughout is meant to show its age, developing character and personality with each wear. Natural brush-offs, scuffs, and patina all add to the boot's story, making them look even cooler as they age—a true nod to the vintage boots that inspired them.

Our current collection of roughout boots embodies this vintage spirit while meeting the needs of today's boot wearers. The men's Culver and women's Rose Hill boots are prime examples of how roughout leather can be both functional and stylish. They're built to be "using boots"— durable, reliable, and ready for anything. The full-grain leather used in these boots ensures that they not only look great but also last for years with proper care.

Roughout leather boots also come with a few unique advantages. Because of their natural texture, they tend to feel broken in, right out of the box, allowing your foot to glide in comfortably from day one. While all boots require a bit of maintenance to make them last through the years, roughout boots benefit from regular cleanings and applications of water repellent to prolong their lifespan, the effort is well worth it for the payoff in style and endurance.

The roughout trend isn't just a nod to the past; it's also making a significant impact on the future of boots, especially among the younger generation. In regions like Oklahoma and Texas, roughout boots have become a must-have item, with black roughout boots in particular flying off the shelves. This surge in popularity is a testament to the appeal of roughout leather in a market where black boots have traditionally struggled to gain traction. But roughout is different—it's the ruggedness, the authenticity, and the story that each scuff tells that have captured the hearts of boot lovers everywhere.

GARY HAWKES - NHSRA

It’s a fun style of boot and very versatile – our members compete in them in the arena and then dust em’ off for Cowboy Prom. You hear kids compliment the toughness that the roughout brings and how nice the heel is for a spur ledge.

We're excited to add three new colorways to our roughout collection, each designed to offer something fresh while staying true to the vintage roots of roughout leather. For women, the Rose Hill now comes in a stunning chestnut color with an eggplant-colored top—a combination that’s both earthy and elegant. For men, the Spearville is available in a striking bronze with a tangerine-colored top, and the Culver comes in a bold dark navy with a classic black top. These new additions are more than just boots; they're a statement of style and substance, designed to stand the test of time.

Roughout leather is more than a material—it's a connection to the past, a celebration of craftsmanship, and a testament to the enduring appeal of well-made cowboy boots. So whether you're drawn to the vintage vibe or looking for a boot that will grow with you over time, our roughout boots offer the perfect blend of style, durability, and history.
